Presidential Campaign 2016: Candidate Online News Tracker
As a complement to our 2016 Campaign Television Tracker we are offering this prototype online news mention tracker based on the GDELT Project's global English-language online news feeds. Each day all worldwide English-language online news coverage (non-English material that has been translated and print and broadcast material is excluded) is scanned for all mentions of the major candidates and recorded below. Those wishing to export the data below in CSV format for further analysis, you can append "&output=csv" to the URL of this page to export the raw timeline in CSV format - make sure to divide all counts by the per-day totals to normalize for the weekly ebbs and flows of volume. You can also click on any point in the timeline below to launch a Google News search showing coverage about that candidate on that day to better understand the source of particular spikes. The results below will often be very different than those of the television tracker, reflecting the strong differences between print and broadcast coverage of the 2016 race to date.
Email kalev.leetaru5@gmail.com with any questions. Permission is granted for any and all use of these graphs in media reports and academic research, please cite "Analysis by the GDELT Project."
By default all mentions of all candidates on national television networks are shown. Use the options below to limit to a particular candidate or change the subset of networks examined.
